AI is changing YouTube forever

AI is changing YouTube forever (kinda).

Estimated Reading Time: 2 minutes, 55 seconds

Hello there. Welcome to the Curious Creator.

What have we got for this week? Well, a brand-new format.

From now, each week is going to be split into 3 parts…

1/ Creator Tip (one easy tip that’s going to help you make better content)

2/ Banger of the Week (one remarkable piece of content that needs sharing)

3/ Weekly Ramble (an explanation of something useful - this week, AI)

Let’s get straight into it…

1/ Creator Tip

The first Creator Tip is a quote, a damn good quote by Seth Godin…

“Don’t be different just to be different. Be different to be better.”

On YouTube today, it sort of feels like everyone is the same right?

It’s normal. People see what’s working and try to replicate it.

The result? You just end up being the same as everyone else, a small fish in a massive pond.

But those willing to be different, those willing to experiment and take creative risks to find their own style are much more likely to win in the long run.

They become a big fish in their own pond (and who doesn’t want that).

2/ Banger of the Week

I finally got around to watching James Jani’s recent video and it didn’t disappoint.

Definitely go watch if you’re at all interested in Crypto (or just excellent content).

But this section isn’t just for recommendations, each video is going to provide some insight.

And this one? 2 insights…

Firstly, it’s a reminder of the quality of content we have on YouTube in 2023.

It’s insane and the best videos on the platform are only going to get better.

Secondly, longer long-form videos might become the norm (it was 54 minutes long).

The rise of short-form content means that viewers’ behaviours are changing. When people have shorter viewing sessions (e.g on the go, mobile-viewing), they are opting for short-form content.

This could mean that when people have longer viewing sessions (e.g evening entertainment on desktop/TV), people not only want long-form content, but longer long-form content.

Before, if YouTubers wanted to get maximum viewership they needed to hit both, appealing to viewers in whatever situation they were in. This took the form of 8-12 minute videos.

Is this the case anymore? With Shorts, could creators have the freedom to create longer videos and still be optimised? I think it might.

3/ Weekly Ramble

This week's weekly ramble is about AI (don’t get triggered, let me explain).

I put out a tweet last week with the hook ‘AI is changing YouTube forever.’

And wow…

Some people got it, realising this is something that is going to change YouTube.

Others didn’t.

And I wanted to explain myself…

Firstly, don’t let the dramatic hook make you think that within a couple of years, AI is going to make all humans redundant from the creative process. It’s not.

What most people were asking was how? How is AI going to help me?

So here’s a list of use cases that might interest you:

  • Thumbnail concepts (visualise thumbnails to ‘stress test’ ideas)

  • Thumbnail backgrounds (build out custom landscapes)

  • Thumbnail assets (generate individual assets to add to thumbnails)

  • Idea brainstorming (get ‘triggers’ to help you think of ideas)

  • Title variations (see different wordings of titles)

  • Scriptwriting (generate outlines or parts of scripts)

  • Editing (use AI tools to speed up slow processes)

  • Insights (predict performance to compare different titles and thumbnails)

These examples aren't AI ‘doing all the work’ or removing the creativity from creating content.

Just like me sending this as an email rather than handwriting it, I'm using a tool to help me create content for people to consume.

And AI is going to do exactly that.

It's going to create a set of extremely valuable tools that creators could use (if they wanted to) to help them make better content.

You don’t NEED to use them. Some artists didn’t start using computers when they first started popping up.

But I think most creators SHOULD explore using them to get ahead of the game by understanding AI and how it can help you out.

Ultimately, it’s just one way to help you make better content (and who doesn't want that).

But as always, I'm just a guy on the internet. No one really knows how this is going to go. Only time will tell.

Thanks for reading. Jay Alto.
